THE APP: ROPOS
Take the plunge! Students get fully immersed, piloting the ROPOS - a high tech robotic submarine - in their very own Virtual & Augmented Reality underwater exploration. Working together as a team, student groups will fly the ROPOS through a virtual ocean, gathering deep-sea samples and data along the way.

ABOUT OCEAN SCHOOL
Developed by Dalhousie University, Ingenium and the National Film Board of Canada, Ocean School is a groundbreaking immersive learning program designed to spark interest in ocean science. This exciting journey of discovery invites users to virtually join renowned scientists on ocean expeditions across Canada and around the globe. Led by Dr. Boris Worm of Dalhousie University, the expeditions will take place on Canada’s three oceans and their coastal regions (Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic) as well as its inland ocean, the Great Lakes. A few adventures will unfold in upcoming expansions including Cocos Island (Costa Rica) and in the Azores (Portugal) and Indonesia. Redefining the way we engage with science and learn about the ocean, Ocean School seeks to create the next generation of ocean leaders.
Seeing and experiencing the ocean makes a world of difference. Ocean School draws you into the ocean's depth, mystery and majesty through augmented and virtual reality, live streaming and 360-degree experiences.Inquiry-based learning places students’ questions, ideas and observations at the centre of the learning experience. On the Ocean School platform, participants dive into open-ended investigations into questions and problems, requiring students and teachers to engage in critical thinking, evidence-based reasoning and creative problem-solving, as well as “problem finding.” Underlying this approach is the idea that both educators and students share responsibility for learning.
